Close to Auterive :

The Lauragais hills and their meanders of sunflower fields will reveal castles and farms full of character made of rose-red brick and decorated with pigeon-lofts. They will take you on to the Nailloux lake (a leisure center with pedal-boats and a mini-golf course) and to the 'Canal du Midi' for a charming stroll on the river banks or a barge sail.
You can also go in search of numerous medieval country houses (bastides) built around beautiful covered spaces (Montgeard, St Suplice, Mazères, Mirepoix, Rieux-Volvestre…) and of Romanesque steeples and chapels…
Those who are fond of sports will enjoy horse-riding and canoe (the Saverdun-Auterive route) as well as paths where you can walk or use a bicycle for all terrains in the district.
Everywhere you will be able to taste the famous South West gastronomy ('foie gras', 'confits', 'magrets', 'cassoulet'…) accompanied with subtle local wines.

But also :

  • Toulouse, the rose-red city and its fine private mansions dating back from the rich pastel epic.

  • Carcassonne fortified city.

  • The Ariège region and its 'cathar' castles and prehistoric caves (Niaux, Mas d'Azil…).
